Act l

An experimental musical written and directed by me.

The first live rehearsal for a private audience took place on my late father’s birthday. Here, I sing Amid the Beauty,

This song is a favorite of mine, and like the multidisciplinary exhibition Quite a Bite, the meaning of the song hits harder as time passes.

I performed spoken word, song, and poetry accompanied by Shu-Wei Tseng on cello and piano, and Mike Handelman on guitar.

Chief Perry of the Ramapough Lenape Nation spoke on his crafted piece in The Garden of Artifacts, and on our recent conversation on kindness.

Diamond Taylor acted as presenter, and Aline Doyle was an on set participant.

We hadn’t done a collective rehearsal prior —I  was so busy coordinating, up until the last minute,

I felt as if I was shot out of a cannon into a performance while conducting and directing.

Agh!

I was out of sync, a fright

and yet the night

was still a delight
